My First Reading Challenge.......join me

The world of blogging will sweep me away! Yesterday I spent hours trying to set up a template, choosing a design, colors, fonts, etc. I'm afraid this technology stuff is wayyyyyy too complicated for little 'ole me [she says in her best southern accent].

I have signed up for my first reading challenge.....it is the Thriller & Suspense Reading Challenge 2010.

TIMELINE: Jan. 1, 2010 - December 31, 2010
RULES: Read 12 thrillers in 2010

You can find all the details
http://www.bookchickcity.com/2009/05/thriller-suspense-challenge-2010_01.html. You need to sign up for this challenge on Book Chick City's blog. Prizes are available and you do not have to be a blogger to participate in the challenge. There are many different sub-genre's of thriller so if you are confused about what would count as a "thriller" look at Book Chick City's blog. Let me know if you are going to participate in this reading challenge - I would enjoy knowing what books you choose to read.

I don't have a completed list for this challenge but the first two books on the list are:

The Lovely Bones
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Anyone read either of these books? I started Lovely Bones yesterday and was immediately drawn in by the book. The book starts with an ugly murder [not that a murder is "pretty" but this type is especially heinous because a young girl is killed] and the book is written from her voice. She tells this story - post mortem. Looking forward to reading more.

Hope you have a blessed day!

Getting Started

Welcome to my blog! I have tried blogging before but wasn't very successful. This time, I am blogging about books. I love to read but as a stay-at-home-mom [SAHM] of 4, there doesn't seem to be enough time to read. Last year I started a book club. It is a rather small club but it's fun and we are reading books that none of us would have read if we weren't in this reading club. We read mostly fiction but have read one memoir. This month we are reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Writing a review of Bones, will be my first book review since college. I love how my being in a book club has positively affected my kids - they are more excited about reading, they ask about the books I read and best of all they read more.

I recently stumbled upon
http://bookingmama.blogspot.com blog and was excited to learn about reading challenges....which makes me wonder, where have I been the past few years? I didn't even know about these challenges. So, I am going to sign up for some challenges. Not sure how many or what the genre's will be - but I will post them on this blog in the next few weeks.

While reading is a rediscovered passion of mine, I also enjoy listening to books on my iPod. A friend told me about
http://www.audible.com/ and I am now hooked! In fact, becoming a member of Audible introduced me to some new favorite authors like Jodi Picoult and Lisa See. Sometimes it is just easier to fold laundry or wash dishes when you are listening to a best seller. My husband will tell you that anything which helps me do work around the house is a bonus for him!!!

I will list some of my all time favorite books on this blog. Share with me your favorites and we may enrich our reading lives.

About Me

Corrales, New Mexico, United States
I am quickly approaching 50 and wonder where has my life gone. My husband and I have four children and live in a small community just outside Albuquerque, NM. I consider myself an avid reader and look forward to blogging about books, authors and my other hobbies. In addition to reading, I enjoy beading [hoping to start a jewelry business this year], sewing, knitting, scrapbooking and shopping.
